HEROS is indebted to its hard-working Trustees.
George Greener - Chairman
After a very active and varied career spanning 40 years running companies and organisations in both private and public sectors, George is delighted to have the opportunity to use his experience to support HEROS. His appreciation of horses began when learned to ride at 50. His wife Rosemary then began to get involved with breeding and racing, this is how they got to know Grace. They very quickly realised just how special she and her work at HEROS is.
Maureen Bartlett
Maureen’s main background is in media, spanning over twenty years both in London and New York with involvement in TV, radio, film and video.
Horses have always been Maureen’s passion with particular emphasis on their welfare. Leaving the media world behind her she bought a 133 acre ex-dairy farm in Buckinghamshire where she keeps several horses, mostly taken in when other people were having problems with them or could no longer keep them.
Maureen’s appreciation and understanding of the thoroughbred stems from racehorse ownership. She and Grace met a few years ago and share the same aims for the wellbeing and welfare of racehorses (indeed, all animals). One of Maureen’s ex-racehorses has been very successfully re-homed via HEROS.
Gee Bradburne
Formerly Gee Armytage, most famous and successful N/H lady jockey. Currently PA to top jump jockey A P McCoy.
Lyn Jefferson-Mackney
Lyn has a background in the health and beauty industry running her own business for 14 years. A change of direction 6 years ago saw Lyn and her husband buying a boarding cattery in Glos and becoming involved in the South Cotswold branch of the RSPCA. Re-homing animals is very close to Lyn’s heart she and her husband to date have re-homed over 500 abandoned cats. Lyn also took on Tramline 6 years ago a HEROS horse of whom she is very proud.
Anne Richardson
Anne is a psychologist by background who currently works in government. She has a longstanding interest in horses and more recently in racing. With her husband, Nick Attenborough, her involvement in HEROS began when "Thurlstone Rock", their ex sprint handicapper was happily re-homed with the support from HEROS. As one of the HEROS trustees, Anne can represent a user's view of the service that HEROS provides, as well as provide a range of professional knowledge and experience.
Anne Shankland
Jill Sutton
Jill has spent most of her working life in the motosport world, first as a rally driver and then as Company Secretary for her husband's motorsport business in London.
Jill retired 10 years ago and returned to her childhood passion for horses. She has bred a number of horses for eventing and still owns two, one semi-retired and the one 5-y-o just about to start her eventing career.
In 1984 they moved to Warwickshire and bought a small 66 acre farm where Jill breeds horses, sheep and German Shepherd dogs. Jill also set up a German Shepherd rescue centre and had great pleasure in finding good homes for many dogs. Jill supports the local hunts and enjoys officiating when needed.
Miss Glynnie Walford
Glynnie is the UK General Manager for the Martin Collins Group based in Lambourn. The company manufactures and installs synthetic riding surfaces.
Glynnie and Grace met many years ago and through her racing connections and love of the thoroughbreds Glynnie became passionate about re-homing of ex-racehorses and was delighted to become a Trustee of HEROS.
HEROS re-homed her ex-racehorse College Delinquent when she began working in the USA to launch Polytrack surface for sports horses.
Phillip York
Mary Robinson - Company Secretary
Mary has been involved in the racing industry most of her working life. She has worked at the grass roots level, riding out when younger and became traveling head girl before riding point to point and training for a short time under permit.
She changed direction slightly, becoming a racing secretary and then started a business advising trainers and jockeys on their accounting practices.
Currently she still runs this business but it has expanded to include a variety of clients from outside the racing industry too, joining the HEROS team from inception.
