Jenny Pitman & HEROS Challenge Cup for Ex-racehorses

Information:

The Jenny Pitman and HEROS Challenge Cup supports HEROS (Homing of ex-racehorses Organisation Scheme). The Challenge Cup aims to encourage and educate owners, loanees and riders of horses, which have raced under the rules of racing and have undergone retraining.  

  • The horse can be ridden either by the owner, loanee, a close family member, or an employee who has been in the full time employment of the owner or loanee for a minimum of 12 months at the time of entry.
  • All horses must have raced under the rules of racing in either Flat or National Hunt races, to be eligible.
  • Horses must be 4yo’s and upwards. Riders must be 15 years old and over.
  • Horses placed 1st – 6th in each class will qualify for the final, if any horse has qualified previously, qualification will automatically pass down the line to 8th place.
  • The competition is open to owners and loanees of horses that have been in their full time care for a minimum of 1 month prior to each qualifier.
  • Each combination of horse and rider must be registered with HEROS at a one off fee of £10. Each different combination of horse and rider must be registered separately. Each combination will be supplied with a unique number on registration.
  • The format of judging will be the same as a typical riding horse class.
  • The judge will ride the horses in the final only and not in any of the qualifiers.
  • The horses will be judged on their general conformation, manners and turnout.
  • At each qualifier the judges will provide feedback to entrants – if desired - to assist with future progression.
  • All competitors must complete an application form with a photocopy of the horse’s passport and a declaration confirming that the rider is the owner, loanee, a close family member, or an employee who has been in the full time employment of the owner or loanee for a minimum of 12 months at the time of entry. No entries will be accepted without the relevant documents.
  • Horses that have finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th at either The Hickstead Derby meeting or at The Horse of the Year Show are not eligible for this competition.
  • Random identity checks may be carried out at any time during the competition
