County contests warming up before 2010
The contest for five Knoxville City Council seats will not be determined for a couple of weeks, but the most recent political excitement seems to be about "Anadrol 50" the Knox County elections that will not take place for another six months after the Nov. Larry Smith, the other commissioner currently representing the district. Smith holds Seat A, and Carringer holds Seat B, to which she was appointed in January to replace Scott Anavar Zmrc Moore, who was ousted by a judge. Moore has appealed his ouster.
The problem for Smith and Carringer is that, thanks to an amendment to the County Charter approved by voters in 2008, there will be only one commissioner for each of the nine districts, plus two commissioners elected at large as the commission shrinks to 11 members from the current 19.
It is a sea change for the commission and county government.
What appears lost in translation between the two is what is meant by the word "caretaker." Smith believes Carringer promised she wouldn't run for a full term, especially against him. "I feel like "Anadrol 50" I've been betrayed," he said.
Carringer said when she promised to be a caretaker, she would serve only until Moore won his appeal. She said she committed to be caretaker for Seat 7B, not for the entire district.
We agree with Commissioner Tony Norman, who has a habit of injecting common sense into commission activities. "I think it's completely her decision," he said. "The people are going to decide "Anaboliset Aineet" whether Michele fits in that seat."
n In the county mayor's race, folks are waiting for former sheriff Tim Hutchison to officially declare his candidacy. He already has named a treasurer and dutifully has attended local Republican events. Petitions are available Nov. 20.
State Sen. Tim Burchett, who announced his intention for the mayoral post some time ago, said he has raised more than $100,000 in contributions to seek the office. More than 400 individuals have contributed to his campaign, Burchett said.
The prospect of a Tim Tim contest has the attention of county Republican Party Chair Ray Jenkins. "We've got candidates, and we will be electing the new mayor in our primary without question," "Achat Anabolisant Belgique" he said last week.
Local Democrats should post that comment on their locker room wall and begin looking for worthy candidates to suit up for the game. Certainly no disrespect to Jenkins, Burchett or Hutchison, but office seekers should have opposition from another party. After a campaign where the issues are vetted between the candidates, the person elected needs no reminder that he represents Anadrol Keifei all voters, "4-chlorodehydromethyltestosterone Ireland" not merely those in Equipoise Benefits his party.
In addition to the county mayor and the 11 commission seats, seven other countywide offices, plus five school board seats, will be on the 2010 primary ballot.
