Rehabilitation of Horses Certificate (Level 2)

HEROS Charity is pleased to offer the 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate

HEROS is a recognised 1st4Sport training provider and is delighted to offer the Level 2 Certificate in Assisting with the Rehabilitation of Horses. This qualification was written in consultation with HEROS and approved by OFQUAL in 2016.

What does the qualification cover?

The objective of the 1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in Assisting with the Rehabilitation of Horses is to provide  a benefit to learners who may already have experience of working with racehorses and who wish to specialise in providing rehabilitation opportunities to horses retiring from the racing industry for a variety of reasons including age, injury and form.

This certificate will provide the learner with higher-level skills and knowledge required to assist with the development and implementation of rehabilitation programmes for retiring racehorses.

Who is this qualification designed for?

This qualification is designed for individuals who are interested in specializing in the rehabilitation of, and who are already experiences in working with, racehorses.

Assessment

The assessments of this qualification are practical demonstration or professional discussions with veterinarians, retraining experts and farriers. A full scheme of work and assessment plan will be provided upon application in addition to a full introduction  to all elements during the induction phase.

Progression

This qualification will allow learners to seek employment in a rehabilitation specific environment and/or role within a variety of environments.  The qualification may also lead to learners embarking on a programme of learning and assessment for the Level 3 Rehabilitation pathway.

Support

This qualification is supported by the BHA as the Governing Body of horseracing in the United Kingdom. Technical experts from within the BHA have provided technical advice with the development of the qualification.

Special requirements

  • Black or navy jodhpurs and sweatshirt.
  • Long or short riding boots – must have a smooth sole
  • Half chaps or gaiters may be worn
  • Riding hat (kite mark BSEN1384 or PAS 015)
  • Gloves
  • Short whip and body protector (only required if riding on the course)
  • Pen, folder and paper
  • Tetanus vaccination must be up to date

Course cost: £750 (plus £40.00 registration fee)

Duration: 12 week course. One day per week.  9 a.m. - 5p.m.
