HEROS - Buying a Horse Terms & Conditions

HEROS has re-trained ex-racehorses horses available for re-homing either on long-term loan or for sale; all horses are subject to these terms and conditions and the relevant procedures are described below.

Before you take a horse

When you see a horse on the website you are interested in, please call to arrange a visit (the “Contact Us” section of the website has all contact details plus a link to Google maps for HEROS location and directions). Wherever possible we see people at either 11am or 2pm Monday – Friday and some Saturday mornings after 10am. We try to avoid Sundays as the staff here have such a heavy workload, but if there is no other alternative we will always try to accommodate you.

We request a donation be made to HEROS when you visit the stud, as this helps tremendously towards re-homing other horses. This will be explained in more detail when you call.

You are invited to try a horse as often as you like, as we want you to be confident and happy that you have chosen the right one.

Sales

The price of each horse varies depending on its ability, temperament, conformation and soundness.

When you find a horse which fits the bill we would suggest that you have at least a 2 stage vetting (eyes, heart, lungs and trotting up) carried out on the horse prior to purchase. If the horse is more expensive, you may want to have a 5 stage vetting done. This is more detailed and includes wind testing and flexion tests on all four legs. We also invite you to be present at the vetting. You have the option of either using your own vet or we can arrange an appointment with one of the vets local to us.

Once the vetting is done and payment made (by either cash or bankers draft) the horse can leave the stud. We require a non-racing agreement be signed to ensure that the horse will not run again in point-to-points or any form of racing under rules. We can than deliver the horse to your choice of destination - the charge is £1.20+VAT per mile round trip.
