HEROS - Gifting a Horse Terms & Conditions
HEROS has re-trained ex-racehorses available for re-homing either on long-term loan or for sale; all horses are subject to these terms and conditions and the relevant procedures are described below.
PROCEDURE FOR GIFTING A HORSE TO HEROS
- Contact HEROS on 01488 638820 to give us the full background and details a of your horse. This will include notifying us of any injuries and temperament traits he/she may have had or previously have had.
- It is necessary that the horse’s vaccinations ie flu jabs are up to date. If they are not you will be required to pay for the first 3 jabs for a new course to be started.
- If the horse is coming from a non-professional yard ie a non racing yard, a veterinary check and blood test must be done prior to the horse coming to us and a report issued to us by the vet.
- We will write to you explaining the procedure and send you a “Memorandum of Gift” form which you will need to complete and return.
- It is a requirement that a minimum donation of £1000.00 is paid before the horse comes in. This donation goes towards keep and running costs of the charity and helps us maintain the high standards we work at. If applicable you be required to complete a Gift Aid form to enable us to claim gift aid on your donation.
- You will also be offered the chance to set up a continuous standing order to HEROS and become a member of the HEROS club. This is not compulsory but helps us a lot and the amount would be up to yourself. It helps significantly with the costs of running the charity.
- When all the paperwork is in order and the donation received HEROS can arrange collection of the horse or, if possible, you can arrange to deliver the horse yourself. If we collect, the transport costs will be payable by you at the current rates + VAT.
- When horses arrive they are assessed individually and the appropriate rehabilitation and re-training programme is designed to suit every individual.
- If you have any tack or rugs to send with the horse they must be sent in clean, labelled with his name and packed with a separate itinerary list with them.
- Horses coming to HEROS can either be loaned or sold and the options will be discussed with the donor during the first phone call.
- If you require a non-racing agreement to be put on the horse at Weatherbys you will need to supply payment for it which changes annually but is around £42.80. The cheque needs to be made payable to “The Britsh Horseracing Authority”.
- When the horse is rehomed we will inform you of his/her progress and make if the new loanee is happy for you to visit give you their details. However, you are not able to visit until after the first 3 month check has been done as we like to give the new loanee a settling in period with the horse. You are however welcome to call us, at any time, for an update of progress or visit the horse whilst he is still with us at North Farm stud by making an appointment through our office on 01488 638820.
- Please read the Terms and Conditions of loaning or buying a horse on the HEROS website, this will explain how this procedure works.
